Build the capital budget from defined work packages
Separate enclosure materials, environmental systems, electrical work, site preparation and installation. Add logistics and the agreed commissioning or acceptance activities. Record whether each value is a quotation, estimate or allowance.
Identify the uncertain inputs. Required height, utility availability, process exhaust and building modifications can materially change the scope. Assign responsibility for resolving each uncertainty before fixing the budget.
Compare options using the same completion boundary. An installed room and a delivered enclosure are not equivalent budget items. Keep contingency distinct from omitted work so that an incomplete estimate is not mistaken for a lower-cost solution.
Configuration decisions
| Decision | What to define |
|---|---|
| Room package | Budget the enclosure and selected equipment. |
| Host-facility work | Include services, supports and necessary preparation. |
| Delivery and installation | Account for handling, assembly and local integration. |
| Acceptance and uncertainty | Identify agreed checks, estimates and unresolved scope. |
What should be provided before requesting a budget estimate?
A process description, approximate usable dimensions, environmental targets, site information and an intended supply boundary. State which details remain uncertain so the estimate can show its assumptions.
