Specify material grade, thickness, cut size and resistance requirements. Ground cords, snaps and other hardware are not established as included by the product photograph.
Color, cut dimensions and grounding provisions can be selected for your workstation.
An ESD table mat creates a defined working surface for placing and handling sensitive parts. The material must be selected together with its grounding arrangement and the other controls used at the bench.
Make the working surface part of one grounding arrangement
An ESD mat provides a defined contact surface for component handling. Its performance depends on the selected material and its connection to the workstation's grounding arrangement. A loose sheet placed on a bench without the required connection does not establish the intended controlled path.
Plan the ground connection where it will not be covered by a fixture or strained by normal movement. Use the specified hardware and connection method, and include the completed surface in the site's resistance checks. The ESD Association treats the worksurface and personnel grounding as coordinated controls.
Choose color and cut size for the task
Visual contrast
Choose a color that helps the operator see the parts, leads and small offcuts handled at the station. Evaluate it under the installed task lighting. Color is a visibility choice, not an electrical specification.
Bench fit
Cover the active handling area without obstructing drawers, vents or equipment feet. Allow space for the grounding point and check that the edges lie flat. A protruding corner can catch a sleeve or interfere with tray movement.
Protect the surface from process damage
Select compatibility with the actual cleaners, solvents and heat exposure. A general ESD mat is not automatically a cutting board, soldering rest or chemical-resistant liner. Cuts, burns, adhesive residue and an unsuitable cleaning film can change the usable surface.
Keep a cleaning and inspection routine appropriate to the task. Recheck the electrical behavior after installation and according to the site's control plan, including after damage or a material change. For loose sensitive parts, use suitable trays and containers within the work area rather than letting a crowded mat become uncontrolled storage.
