What the operations standard means for project planning
ISO describes the 2025 edition around an operations control programme covering personnel, movement of materials, cleaning, maintenance and monitoring. It replaces the 2004 edition. The published scope does not provide industry-specific requirements or equipment design details.
The procurement implication is to prepare for operation while the room is being specified. Request configuration records and equipment information that the owner can use when organizing maintenance, cleaning access and staff procedures. Identify who supplies each record and who owns the operating programme.
Keep design, classification and operation distinct in the document register. ISO 14644-4:2022 addresses the design-to-start-up process, while ISO 14644-1:2015 concerns airborne-particle classification. A reference to one of these documents is not a certificate for the room shown on this website. This briefing was reviewed on 13 October 2026; the publication dates above are the standards' dates.
Configuration decisions
| Decision | What to define |
|---|---|
| Operations document | Check which edition is referenced in the project document register. |
| Handover information | Request the records needed to operate and maintain the installed package. |
| Owner responsibilities | Assign procedures, training and monitoring within the operating programme. |
| Scope boundaries | Use the relevant process and industry requirements alongside the general cleanroom standards. |
Does a revised operations standard automatically require new walls?
Not by itself. Review the applicable requirements and the current operating arrangements with the responsible team. The effect depends on the facility and the gap identified by that review.
