Match the door to the movement
A personnel door and an equipment-loading opening can have very different clear-passage needs. Record the largest transported item, its handling method and the space needed to turn or align it before entry.
Compare leaf arrangements, glazing and hardware against that movement. A wider opening may help equipment transfer but affect the surrounding layout and normal operation. Reserve space for the open leaf and coordinate it with nearby benches and transfer devices.
Where access control or interlocking is proposed, define the operating sequence and the responsible safety review. The controls must not be selected independently of the door hardware and required emergency access arrangements.
Configuration decisions
| Decision | What to define |
|---|---|
| Personnel entry | Match clear passage and hardware to normal user movement. |
| Equipment entry | Check the complete transported load and its approach path. |
| Observation | Position glazing according to visibility and process needs. |
| Controls | Coordinate access, interlocking and required safety functions. |
Is a double-leaf door always the better choice?
It can provide a larger opening, but the operating pattern, seals, hardware and surrounding space also matter. Compare it with the actual movement required rather than width alone.
