A framed activated carbon panel should be selected for identified gases and an operating duty. Its colour and face dimensions do not reveal how much active media it contains or which contaminants it can control.
Ask what is inside the frame
Carbon can be carried in different constructions, including embedded media or a retained fill. These have different physical arrangements and useful capacities. Establish the supplied media identity, quantity and structure before comparing two panels that appear similar from the front.
Camfil's GigaPleat range uses different molecular media for different contaminant families. This supports selecting the chemistry for the target gas rather than assuming ordinary activated carbon treats every gas equally.
Limited depth creates a practical trade-off
A shallow panel can fit a restricted filter section, but that installation space also limits the media arrangement. Evaluate removal requirements and expected loading at the actual airflow. If the duty requires more capacity or contact than the available panel can provide, changing the label is not a solution; a different housing or treatment stage may be needed.
Particle pre-filtration may be appropriate to protect the molecular stage, depending on the system. Identify each stage and its service basis. A combined assembly should not obscure whether a pressure reading refers to particle loading, airflow resistance or another condition.
Replacement needs a defined reason
Pressure drop alone does not measure remaining adsorption capacity. Establish a monitoring or replacement basis appropriate to the target contaminant and process. A panel can lose useful gas-removal performance without developing a conspicuous pressure rise.
Record operating hours, process changes and media identity. Keep replacement panels protected during storage and follow the selected supplier's packaging instructions; the media should not be unnecessarily exposed before it enters service.
shengtongJH can coordinate framed carbon panel dimensions and media options to the application. Send the target gases, airflow, concentrations and available installation space to discuss a suitable filter stage. Any performance or service-life commitment must relate to the selected media and duty.
