The best cleanroom wipe for a task removes the intended contamination without adding unacceptable fibres, residues or surface damage. Selection depends on the surface, contamination, liquid and handling method. “Lint free” is not a complete technical specification.
Begin with the surface and residue
A rough machine surface, a polished optical component and a large worktop need different contact behaviour. Compare fabric construction, edge finish, absorbency and compatibility with the selected liquid. Identify whether the task is spill pickup, residue removal, solution application or a qualified disinfection process. High liquid capacity is useful for one task but may be less important than low extractables or controlled release for another. Compare test data using matching methods.
Dry and presaturated formats change control
A dry wipe allows selection of the liquid at use, but the operator must control wetting and the dispensing container. A presaturated wipe combines fabric, liquid and packaging into a defined product. Check the liquid composition, usable life after opening and compatibility with the surface.
For disinfectant application, the required surface coverage and contact conditions come from the approved disinfectant procedure. A wipe being wet at the start does not establish that the whole surface remains suitably wet for the required process. Plan the area cleaned per wipe and replacement method in the work instruction.
Irradiated and sterile are separate purchasing descriptions
Ask for the supplied status and supporting documentation rather than inferring sterility from an irradiation statement alone. Packaging integrity, lot identification and the transfer sequence matter where sterile supply is required. Irradiation also does not remove chemical residues already present in the material.
