ESD Wrist Straps & Cords
esd wrist strap
| Wristband | Adjustable conductive-inner fabric or stainless-steel expansion links |
|---|---|
| Fabric band fit | 120–200 mm adjustable circumference configuration |
| Metal band sizes | Small, medium and large; select by band circumference and wearer fit |
| Cord length | 6 or 12 ft extended, approximately 1.8 or 3.7 m; usable reach depends on coil tension |
| Single-wire terminals | 4 mm wrist snap and banana plug; alternative snap types must match the band |
| Series resistance | 1 MΩ current-limiting resistor incorporated at the wrist end of the single-wire cord |
| Monitoring | Periodic worn-system tester; compatible continuous-monitor arrangement where required |
| Supply arrangement | Complete band-and-cord set, replacement wristband or replacement cord |
Order the band, cord and workstation connection as a compatible assembly. A wristband supplied alone does not provide a ground path.
Wristband material, fit, cord reach and connections can be configured for your work area and operating requirements.
An ESD wrist strap gives charge on a person a controlled route to the workstation grounding system while sensitive electronic parts are exposed. A useful set combines comfortable skin contact with a cord that stays connected through the operator's normal movements. The purchase decision therefore includes the wearer, the bench and the verification method.
A small item with three interfaces
Assembly benches, board-repair stations and component inspection desks all involve repeated hand movement. Clothing and seat movement can recharge a person after a brief touch to grounded metal. A connected wrist system maintains the intended path while the work continues.
Contact at the wrist
The conductive inside must touch skin. Wearing the band over a sleeve, leaving it loose enough to slide onto clothing or allowing a cuff underneath interrupts that interface. A comfortable fit matters because an uncomfortable band is more likely to be loosened during a shift.
Connection at the bench
The cord needs a secure connection to the designated ESD ground point. A metal bench leg may be painted or isolated; its appearance does not establish an electrical connection. The workstation ground arrangement should already be installed and verified.
Evidence during use
A check of the worn band and its cord includes the operator contact that a cord-only measurement misses. Use the site's verification procedure and limits, with suitable test equipment.
Choose the band around the work routine
Fabric for flexible adjustment
An adjustable textile band can accommodate different wrist sizes and is useful where comfort and low bulk are priorities. Its conductive inner weave needs to remain intact and clean. A stretched band, damaged clasp or fraying contact surface is a replacement issue, even when the outside still looks acceptable.
Metal for a reusable link construction
A metal expansion cuff offers a defined contact surface and a construction that can be wiped and dried. Link movement, cuff size and the location of the snap affect comfort. The metal wrist strap options explain fit and maintenance in more detail.
Give the operator useful reach
Measure the path from the ground point to the farthest normal hand position, including reaching a parts tray. A longer advertised cord may still pull firmly when extended, while excessive slack can hang below the bench or catch a drawer. Position the connection so the cable leaves the wrist without crossing the component-handling area.
Where a workstation uses a continuous monitor, select its approved band and cable arrangement. A connector that physically fits does not prove that a monitoring circuit will work. Compare replacement cord connections before mixing components.
Put the strap inside a complete handling process
The wrist strap addresses charge on its wearer. Parts still need an appropriate work surface and protective packaging, and nearby insulating materials may need separate control. This is ESD equipment for approved electronics workstations, not electrical insulating protection or permission to work on energized equipment.
For a quotation, identify whether you need complete sets or spares, the wrist sizes, the existing ground-point connector and any monitor in use. Those details resolve compatibility before the quantity and packaging are agreed.
