Sizes describe the compact dryer envelope, excluding attached filters and access. Inlet capacity, purge demand and net delivered flow are stated separately in the final selected data sheet.

A desiccant compressed air dryer removes water vapour by adsorption onto a porous drying medium. It can serve applications needing a lower pressure dew point than ordinary refrigerated drying. Its performance depends on the condition of that medium, the incoming moisture load and the system used to regenerate it.
The drying medium has a specific job
Activated alumina, molecular sieve and other selected media have different characteristics. Their choice depends on moisture target, temperature, regeneration method and the dryer’s design. Changing to a more demanding dew point can require a different bed arrangement or medium, not simply more material inside the same housing.
The air leaving the dryer need not be physically cold. Pressure dew point describes its remaining water content at the stated pressure; it is separate from the delivered air temperature.
Compact does not mean free of support equipment
A small modular dryer can fit near a dedicated process, but the complete installation includes filters, drainage, purge discharge and service access. Check whether filter elements or drying cartridges can be removed without dismantling adjacent pipework.
The compressor must supply regeneration demand as well as the net air consumed by the process. Assess the branch pressure during operation, particularly where a long or restricted line feeds the compact package.
Protect the medium from avoidable damage
- Remove bulk liquid upstream. A bed selected to adsorb vapour should not be used as a substitute for an effective separator and drain.
- Control oil contamination. Use the specified inlet treatment for the compressor and dryer combination. Oil can obstruct the medium’s useful surface and compromise drying performance.
- Capture downstream dust. The selected afterfilter protects the connected process from particles released by the drying material. Its condition belongs in routine maintenance.
A pressure-drop reading is useful for assessing restriction, but it does not prove that the medium still meets the moisture requirement. Adsorption condition and airflow resistance are different properties.
Investigate a rising dew point as a system symptom
Before replacing media, check changes in demand, pressure, inlet temperature, drainage and regeneration. A damaged switching valve or blocked exhaust can prevent a sound bed from recovering. Conversely, resetting the controller does not restore a contaminated medium. Use the selected equipment’s service procedure and appropriate moisture measurements to separate these causes.
Plan replacement without losing treatment control
Identify the specified medium or cartridge and the replacement method before ordering spares. Mixing unidentified materials can change pressure loss, regeneration behaviour and dust release. Maintenance requires isolation and depressurisation, followed by the manufacturer’s preparation and acceptance steps before process use resumes.
For larger continuous duties, compare the twin-tower regeneration arrangement. For a small branch with a less demanding moisture target, an inline membrane package may be another option to assess.
