L runs along the wall and D projects from it. H describes the trough body, not the height above the floor. Installation height and accessible positions are selected separately for the intended users.

Handwashing stations for schools need to work when a class arrives together, not only when one child uses the basin. A shared trough can provide several wash positions along one wall, while suitable controls, reachable supplies and a clear exit route help pupils use the facility with less crowding. Plan the installation around the age range and the school routine.

Design for the moments when everyone arrives

Before meals, after outdoor activities and around toilet use, demand can arrive in short bursts. Count the pupils using the area at the same time and consider how a supervised group enters, waits, washes and leaves. Additional taps help only if the approach and drying area can accommodate the same group.

Keep the queue away from door swings and through routes. If children must return past waiting classmates to reach towels, the layout creates avoidable crossing. Locating soap at the wash positions and drying supplies toward the exit can give the group a more orderly sequence.

Reach includes more than the basin edge

The water stream
A child should be able to put both hands under the outlet without leaning far over the trough. Check spout projection and basin depth together. A low rim alone does not solve a tap that is too far away.
The control
Self-closing taps need an operating force and duration that suit the users. Sensor controls need to detect hands in a comfortable washing position. Demonstrate the intended action and check that it can be repeated easily.
Soap and drying
Place dispensers within practical reach, including the opening from which a towel is pulled. A well-positioned basin loses usefulness when the soap is above the pupil's reach or the towel point is behind a queue.
Different ages and mobility needs
One mounting height may not serve everyone. Plan suitable positions with the school's access requirements, including approach and knee space where needed. A high-low sink arrangement is one option to assess; the complete installation must still suit its users.

Keep the floor around the trough usable

Choose tap flow and outlet direction to limit splashing, and coordinate drainage so water does not collect in the basin. Protect nearby wall joints and provide access to waste fittings. Attend to leaks promptly instead of relying on a mat to hide a recurring wet patch.

Rounded exposed edges, secure fixings and protected service pipes help avoid easily damaged or awkward contact points. Where warm water is supplied, suitable temperature control belongs in the installation design.

Make replenishment part of the school day

A usable station needs water, soap and a way to dry hands throughout the day. Give staff a clear replenishment routine and enough storage to replace supplies without leaving containers on the basin edge. Check the area before the periods of heaviest demand.

Choose dispenser and tap components that can be serviced without dismantling the whole trough. Cleaning access under and around the unit matters in a corridor or shared washroom where dirt can accumulate along the base.

Handwashing stations for schools can be customized to pupil ages, room layout, supervision needs and the school's daily use pattern.
