Smoke Detectors & Alarms
smoke detector carbon monoxide detector
| Sensing combination | Optical smoke plus an electrochemical CO channel; optional heat input on selected multi-sensors |
|---|---|
| Compact detector size, diameter × height (mm) | 100 × 45 detector head, excluding its mounting base |
| Sounder-base assembly option (mm) | 175 diameter × 69 overall height on a selected compatible system family |
| Power configuration | Panel-powered detector; selected families specify 17–41 V DC or 15–32 V DC operating ranges |
| Alarm functions | Distinct smoke/fire and CO reporting only where supported by detector and panel |
| Notification | Compatible sounder/base or system notification arrangement with the required distinct signals |
| Installation | Location selected for both sensing functions and the intended building application |
| Maintenance | Separate CO sensor life, fault reporting and manufacturer-prescribed functional testing |
The compact head and larger sounder-base assembly belong to different supported families. Supply voltages, bases and approvals cannot be mixed between them.
The combined detection arrangement, compatible notification accessories and supply package can be customized for your approved building application.
Smoke and carbon monoxide are different detection tasks. A combined device can package both functions, but the selected product and control system must support the required smoke alarm and CO warning functions separately. A smoke-only detector cannot identify carbon monoxide.
Two hazards need two clearly defined responses
Smoke sensing
Responds to smoke entering the optical chamber. It is part of the fire detection arrangement and does not measure every hazardous gas.
Carbon monoxide sensing
Responds to CO through its specified sensing and alarm logic. CO can be present without visible smoke, so a clear-looking room does not rule it out.
Occupant notification
The installation must communicate the required event and response. A panel record alone may not provide the local warning required by the design.
A CO input is not always a CO life-safety alarm
Some multi-criteria fire detectors use gas information to help decide whether a fire signature is present. That is different from a device and system approved to warn of hazardous CO exposure.
Ask specifically whether the proposed combination provides the intended independent CO alarm function, how that event is displayed and which notification outputs operate. The answer must apply to the complete detector, firmware, panel and base combination.
One mounting position must suit both tasks
A combined housing can simplify the installation, but it does not remove placement constraints. Smoke movement, combustion equipment, ventilation and the manufacturer's location requirements may lead the designer to choose separate devices.
Do not install a standard room alarm directly in an exhaust stream or use it as a substitute for an industrial process-gas monitoring system. Hazardous atmospheres and occupational exposure monitoring require the equipment and procedures specified for those purposes.
Plan for the CO sensor's service limit
A working smoke indicator does not establish that the CO channel remains serviceable. Track the unit's prescribed replacement condition and fault signals, and verify both functions through the manufacturer's test programme. A test button may not exercise every sensing and transmission function required during system maintenance.
If a smoke or CO alarm operates, follow the site's evacuation procedure and contact the appropriate emergency services from a safe location. Do not use the absence of a smell as reassurance or treat a silence command as evidence that the atmosphere is safe.
Specify the complete combination
Supply enquiries should identify the required smoke and CO functions, building use, control platform and intended sounder arrangement. Compare the reporting options on the smart smoke detector page if individual event identification is needed. shengtongJH can organize compatible sourcing without presenting one supplier's certification as a blanket approval for every combination.
