Polyurethane foam sandwich panels use bonded layers to combine thermal insulation with a finished wall surface. Their usefulness depends on the integrity of the complete sandwich, especially at joints, cut edges and fixing locations.
The insulating layer
The rigid foam reduces heat transmission through the panel. Its continuity matters at panel ends and junctions: an interrupted core or an unsealed opening can undermine the finished wall even if the central panel area is well insulated.
The protective layers
The metal skins protect the core and contribute to the composite panel's behaviour. Changing skin thickness, profile or bonding construction can change the appropriate support arrangement. The selected assembly needs its own product information.
Prevent damage before installation
Lift and support long panels using a method appropriate to their length and weight. Avoid dragging edges across other pieces or supporting a long bundle on widely separated small points. Local bending or denting can affect both appearance and joint fit.
Store panels dry with suitable support and follow the supplied protective-film instructions. Cutting and drilling debris should be removed promptly so it does not embed in or stain the finished surface. Any field cut needs a defined closure, not exposed foam left behind a loose trim.
Keep performance claims assembly-specific
Insulation value, allowable span and fire performance are different questions. None should be inferred solely from the word polyurethane. Specify the required performance and check evidence for the offered core, skins, joints and installation arrangement.
For walls carrying equipment, identify bracket loads early and provide suitable support.
