Size the route for the handled load
Measure the load as it will travel, including containers, overhang and handling equipment. Compare that envelope with doors, transfer openings and turning points. The nominal width of a cart does not capture the space needed by the person moving it.
Review surfaces, joints and wheels against the cleaning procedure and floor finish. Identify whether handling equipment remains inside the controlled area or crosses a boundary. The transfer method should address that distinction.
Provide a normal parking and staging location. Temporary storage in a convenient aisle can interfere with access or the intended air path. For powered or automated equipment, coordinate controls, charging and maintenance with the wider process design.
Configuration decisions
| Decision | What to define |
|---|---|
| Load envelope | Include packaging, overhang and the handling method. |
| Route envelope | Check clear openings, turns and operator space. |
| Boundary crossing | Define whether the equipment stays inside or transfers between areas. |
| Staging | Reserve a position that preserves access and process flow. |
Can the cleanroom door be sized from the cart width?
Use the complete moving envelope instead, including the load, clearances, turning and operator handling. Review the smallest restriction along the entire route.
