Body length is not a guaranteed treatment-area dimension. Performance limits and measuring positions must suit the product and process; no universal zero-voltage or discharge-time claim applies.

The local ionization arrangement can be customized for the workpiece positions, ESD requirements, airflow and workstation layout.

A static ionizing bar can provide localized charge control at an assembly, inspection or handling station. Its value depends on the conditions at the actual workpiece. A bar that is energized above a bench still needs to deliver sufficiently balanced ionization to every location where the sensitive item is exposed.

Start with the objects that cannot be grounded effectively

A necessary plastic fixture, tray or product surface can retain charge even beside a grounded bench. Ionization can address that local problem while the normal personnel and equipment grounding provisions continue to perform their own functions.

Identify when the sensitive item is exposed and how long it stays in each position. An overhead bar should be assessed against those positions, including the edge of a tray or a transfer point, rather than only directly beneath its centre.

Use two performance measures for two different questions

Discharge time

This indicates how quickly a defined positive or negative charge is reduced under the test conditions. Check both polarities. The process needs enough treatment time before a sensitive operation; a favourable result at a different distance may not describe the installed duty.

Offset voltage

This describes the balance of the delivered ionization under the measurement conditions. Good speed alone is insufficient if the ion supply leaves the target with an unacceptable residual potential. Set the acceptance limits from the product and process requirements.

A charged-plate monitor is used for these ionizer measurements. Record the target position, bar setting, airflow and relevant environmental conditions so later checks can be compared meaningfully.

Keep the ion path compatible with the work

Airflow may help ions reach the workpiece, but it can also redirect them or disturb lightweight parts. Include the existing supply air and extraction when choosing the position. Nearby conductive surfaces and machine structures influence where ions are collected.

A clean work area also places requirements on the selected bar materials, emitter construction and service method. Installing an ionizer does not confer a cleanroom classification or demonstrate that a complete workstation meets an ESD standard.

Maintain the baseline as the station changes

Deposits and emitter wear can alter performance over time. Follow the selected equipment's cleaning instructions with power safely isolated. After cleaning, replacement or repositioning, confirm that the station again meets its agreed discharge-time and balance limits.

Use a schedule informed by the process and observed deterioration. A status output or contamination alert can support maintenance, but it does not replace checking the result at the workpiece.

shengtongJH can coordinate the bar, mounting and control options for the defined workstation. If the existing unit needs emitter parts, compare its exact construction with the requirements on ionizing bar electrode.

The local ionization arrangement can be customized for the workpiece positions, ESD requirements, airflow and workstation layout.
