A VAV terminal must control the zone's required airflow range, not merely fit its duct connection. The minimum duty can be as important as the maximum because sensing and control need to remain useful across normal operation.
Define the zone requirements
Establish design maximum flow, required minimum ventilation and any special pressure or process relationship. Include occupancy and operating modes. An arbitrary percentage of maximum flow should not replace the zone's actual minimum requirement.
If reheat or other accessories are included, coordinate their operating limits and sequence with the airflow controller. The complete terminal selection should reflect the intended supply conditions and zone load, rather than combining unrelated options from different schedules.
Protect the measurement location
Inlet bends, transitions and disturbances can affect the sensing arrangement. Follow the selected manufacturer's installation requirements and reserve suitable space upstream. A box installed immediately after an unsuitable fitting may not behave like its published selection.
Keep pressure and sound data attached to the operating point. A terminal may meet maximum flow while producing an unsuitable sound level or using more available pressure than intended. Coordinate the fan-system pressure strategy with terminal operation.
Commission signals and airflow together
Identify the controller, signal type, scaling and building-management interface. A displayed setpoint should be checked against the intended engineering units and measured operation. Record the accepted minimum and maximum settings and the response to relevant control modes.
TROX's TVM terminal information specifies an operating airflow range and pressure conditions for a particular construction. Equivalent limits are needed for the offered terminal so low-flow control and maximum duty remain within its usable range.
