An automatic sliding door can preserve circulation space where a hinged leaf would obstruct traffic. The usable opening, sensor coverage and travel space should be designed together. A door that fits the wall opening may still operate poorly if people, trolleys or nearby equipment interfere with its detection zone.
Draw the traffic approaching the opening
Show pedestrian directions, loaded trolley dimensions and stopping positions. Consider low or projecting loads, people following closely and traffic crossing in front of the door without entering. Select activation and protective devices for the actual approach rather than extending the open time indefinitely to mask a detection problem.
The operator and safety system should be installed and commissioned to the applicable requirements by competent personnel. If the doorway forms part of an emergency route, its failure and escape behaviour must be specifically approved for that role.
Allow space beyond the clear opening
A sliding leaf needs travel space and an accessible drive or track assembly. Wall-mounted cabinets, sockets and pipework can obstruct the travel zone or make routine maintenance difficult. Include access for removing covers and replacing drive components in the installation drawing.
ASSA ABLOY's cleanroom sliding-door example shows that sliding arrangements are configurable assemblies. Its product features are not a specification for every operator or sealing system offered elsewhere.
Connect pressure control to door operation
When the door opens, the room boundary changes. Frequent traffic and long dwell times should be considered with the ventilation design. A faster operating cycle cannot compensate for an unsuitable room layout or a seal that does not fit the frame.
Check the closed condition separately: leaf alignment, seals, floor interface and frame-to-wall closure. Record any access-control or interlock connections and the expected response to a fault. Maintenance should be able to identify whether a problem is mechanical, sensing-related or caused by a building-system signal.
