Rock wool is a core material; the fire, structural and weather performance of a sandwich panel belongs to its complete construction. A purchasing decision should therefore connect the core with the metal facings, adhesive, joints, fixings and support arrangement.
Do not exchange three different claims
A core's reaction to fire, a wall assembly's fire resistance and an installed building's fire strategy answer different questions. A statement about one should not be presented as proof of the others. If a project requires a specific classification, ask for the applicable assembly evidence and installation conditions.
ROCKWOOL's panel specification notes describe a defined sandwich construction and classification. This illustrates why a specification must identify the complete product; its values do not become a guarantee for any panel containing stone wool.
Span and handling affect the useful panel size
Increasing panel length may reduce the number of vertical joints, but it changes transport, lifting and support requirements. Determine the available installation route and the spacing of the actual supports. Do not use a wall-span table for a ceiling or assume that a panel can carry maintenance traffic because it feels rigid during handling.
Large openings require particular attention. A door or service aperture interrupts the panel and may need separate framing. If a wall-mounted load is proposed, identify how it reaches suitable support instead of relying on the thin facing.
Protect the core at the details
Close panel edges and penetrations so the intended environment does not reach the exposed core. At the base, coordinate the floor finish and cleaning method. At external or temperature-controlled applications, define water shedding and air-sealing details as part of that specific enclosure; an internal partition detail is not automatically suitable.
Use the quotation schedule to compare facings, coating, core construction, joint accessories and required records. A bare square-metre rate may omit corners, openings and support components that materially affect the completed job.
