A control panel can bring room information and commands into one accessible location. It becomes useful when each display is tied to a real sensor and each button has a defined effect. A polished screen with generic icons does not establish that the connected systems work together.
Write a point schedule before choosing the screen
| Point type | What the specification should establish |
|---|---|
| Displayed value | Sensor source, unit, range and response to a lost signal. |
| Command | Which equipment receives it, permitted users and the expected response. |
| Status | Whether it represents a command request or confirmed equipment feedback. |
| Alarm | Initiating condition, priority, acknowledgement and who responds. |
A fan “on” command and proof of airflow are different signals. Similarly, a displayed room pressure requires a suitable measurement arrangement and commissioning; it cannot be inferred from the selected fan speed.
Keep responsibility clear
Identify which functions remain with specialist ventilation, medical gas or electrical systems. The room panel may repeat information without becoming the primary safety controller. Agree interfaces, communications protocols and alarm responsibility with the relevant designers.
NHS HTM 03-01 separates healthcare ventilation design and validation from operational management. A room display supports operation, but does not replace validation of the underlying system.
Plan ordinary faults as well as normal use
Define what happens after power loss, communication failure or sensor failure. A stale value should not continue to look like a current measurement. Set who can change setpoints, and distinguish routine settings from service functions.
Choose a mounting arrangement that allows cleaning and replacement without unnecessarily opening the room fabric. Include an editable point list, wiring information and access arrangements in handover so future changes do not depend on guessing how the panel was programmed.
Share the room-system point schedule with shengtongJH. Panel layout and interface options can be coordinated around the approved functions and responsibilities.
