Buying a Modular Cleanroom: Define the System Before Comparing Prices

A modular cleanroom quotation becomes useful when it describes an operating system around your process. Wall area and filter quantity alone do not explain whether the room will accommodate the equipment, maintain the intended environment or remain serviceable after installation.

Start with the work that needs protection

Mark where product is exposed, where operators stand and which operations release particles or heat. A packaging task inside an existing conditioned factory presents a different problem from a room containing hot machinery and frequent pallet movements. An equipment footprint is only part of the occupied space: doors, loading faces, maintenance panels and replacement routes also need room.

Record the required environmental conditions and the state in which they must be demonstrated. The public scope of ISO 14644-4:2022 connects requirements, design, construction and start-up; it does not prescribe one universal cleanroom technology. The practical procurement lesson is to agree the required outcome before accepting a standard package.

Follow the air through the proposed room

Ask for a drawing showing filtered supply, return or relief paths, and the surrounding building air connection. A tall machine positioned under a supply zone can change how air reaches the work. A return grille hidden behind storage can undermine an otherwise reasonable layout. Cooling and moisture control also need a defined source; recirculating fans do not remove process heat by themselves.

Three supply boundaries worth separating
BoundaryWhat must be allocated
Room enclosureWalls, ceiling, doors, penetrations and supporting structure
Environmental equipmentFiltration, air movement, conditioning, controls and connections to building services
Operational handoverCommissioning responsibilities, agreed tests, documents and staff instructions

Expansion should be a defined interface

A removable wall can make a physical extension easier, but it does not establish spare cooling, airflow or electrical capacity. Identify which wall may move, where services cross it and which equipment must be upgraded. Preserve access to the existing room during the work; otherwise a nominally modular extension can still require a disruptive shutdown.

For quotation comparison, issue the same layout, process description and supply boundary to each bidder. List exclusions alongside price, including building preparation, service connections and verification. Compare modular cleanroom configurations against that schedule. shengtongJH can coordinate the equipment and materials scope around the application; send the layout and operating requirements to discuss a suitable arrangement.
