A magnesium oxide reinforced rock wool panel combines different layers for different jobs. The metal facing provides the exposed finish, the mineral-fibre core occupies the panel depth, and reinforcement layers influence the construction behind the face. Procurement should identify that build-up rather than relying on the phrase “rock wool panel”.
Ask for a section, not just a photograph
A panel photograph rarely shows the position or thickness of internal boards, the edge frame or the bond between layers. Request a labelled cross-section and match it to the intended wall or ceiling use. Two quotations with the same overall thickness can represent different constructions and handling weights.
The Chinese manufacturer Lairun lists a magnesium-board and rock-wool composite panel. That construction should be distinguished from a plain rock-wool panel; the listing does not establish identical properties across suppliers.
Follow the load to the support
For a tall partition, identify the support spacing and edge restraint. For a ceiling, define panel span, suspension and any maintenance loading. Internal reinforcement does not authorize mounting heavy equipment onto the metal skin. A pass box, cabinet or cable tray needs a deliberate load path into suitable framing or independent support.
Cut openings before the installation sequence is fixed. A large cutout can remove the continuity that the original panel construction depended on. Edge closures and local reinforcement should be shown on the opening detail, along with the seal to the inserted equipment.
Protect the assembly during construction
Store panels according to the selected supplier's instructions, protect exposed edges and avoid leaving cut cores open to cleaning water. A good surface finish cannot compensate for water entering behind it. At the base, coordinate the panel detail with the floor finish and the way the room is washed.
Fire performance, acoustic behaviour and structural capacity must be supported for the selected assembly. A material description alone is insufficient, and results for a different facing, thickness or joint should not be silently transferred.
When reviewing magnesium oxide reinforced rock wool panels, compare the build-up, support drawing and required evidence on the same schedule. shengtongJH can coordinate dimensions, facings and junction components for the application. Send the wall or ceiling duty and opening details to discuss the appropriate configuration.
