The useful capacity of a changing-room locker depends on what each person stores and when they access it. Counting doors can underestimate the space needed for shoes, personal items and garments that must remain separated.
Map one person's change of clothing
Follow arrival, removal of outer clothing, gowning and departure. Establish where used garments go and whether they share storage with clean items. Separate compartments can support that routine, but labels alone will not prevent a workflow that forces users to carry items back across the changing boundary.
Allow room for garments to hang without bunching against shoes or bags. Where ventilation is required, choose an arrangement compatible with the room's contamination-control strategy. A perforated door does not turn a passive locker into a filtered storage cabinet.
Count people at the busy period
Enough lockers for the workforce does not guarantee enough circulation at shift change. Door swings, benches and people dressing all use the same aisle. Check the busiest sequence and leave access for cleaning and maintenance.
Locks should match the access policy and practical key or credential management. Electronic access adds wiring, power and fault-recovery requirements; a simple mechanical arrangement may suit other facilities better.
Choose the construction for its environment
Stainless steel and coated steel have different cost and cleaning implications. Specify the grade or coating system rather than “metal locker.” Include feet or plinths, top shape, internal joints and replaceable hinges in the comparison.
The British Stainless Steel Association's cleaning guidance explains why stainless surfaces still require appropriate care. The finish should be compatible with the actual cleaning agents, especially where moisture and residues remain around joints.
For procurement, provide the number of users, storage contents and changing-room plan. Internal divisions, hooks, shelves and access systems can then be selected together.
