A laminar flow hood should be sized and positioned around the area that needs clean-air protection. Its outline alone does not define the protected working zone once equipment, people and nearby air currents are present.
Find the exposed product
Mark where material is open to the environment, how long it stays exposed and how it enters and leaves. A hood over one machine may need to protect a transfer point beside it as well. Conversely, enclosing an entire line may be unnecessary if only one operation requires local protection.
Show tall machine parts, light fittings and operator positions in the airflow path. They can interrupt or redirect supply before it reaches the work. The installed arrangement should be evaluated with the relevant operating layout, not only an empty space beneath the filter.
Coordinate the surrounding room
Nearby doors, ventilation outlets and traffic can influence local air movement. Identify the route by which supplied air leaves the protected zone and avoid obstructing it with storage or screens added later. If a partial enclosure is proposed, review how it changes both access and air movement.
ISO 14644-3 describes performance test methods for controlled environments. The relevant local-zone checks and operating conditions should be agreed for the application; a filter class alone does not demonstrate the complete installed result.
Do not confuse protection with extraction
A clean-air supply hood is not automatically a means of containing hazardous dusts, vapours or biological emissions. Those duties require their own risk assessment and suitable control system. Increasing clean supply without assessing the hazard can move contaminants in an unintended direction.
Provide service access for filters, fans and controls without compromising the support structure. Specify how performance is re-established after maintenance or a change in the production layout.
