A laboratory bench combines a work surface with support, storage and often utility connections. Its suitability follows the work being performed. No single top material should be assumed resistant to every chemical, temperature or cleaning method.
Translate the experiment into surface exposure
List the chemicals, concentrations, contact duration and cleaning agents that may reach the top. Brief splash exposure differs from leaving a container on the surface overnight. Heat, abrasion and staining also affect selection.
Compare the proposed material's relevant test information with those conditions. Chemical-resistance results for a sample do not automatically cover joints, edge details, sinks or installed sealants. Define how these interfaces are constructed and repaired.
Keep services accessible and identifiable
Power, gases, water and drainage should be planned with the laboratory's specialist designers. A service spine can organise connections, provided access for isolation and maintenance remains practical. Label services unambiguously and allow space for actual plugs, hoses and equipment connections.
Do not let a cupboard hide a critical valve or make a drain connection inaccessible. Future equipment changes are easier when the bench layout allows access without dismantling a complete row.
Support the equipment and the operator
Specify total and concentrated loads, including balances, instruments and stored supplies. Sensitive instruments may need dedicated support or isolation. Choose working height and legroom around the tasks rather than assuming one height suits all users.
Kewaunee's laboratory work-surface overview distinguishes epoxy, laminate and other constructions. Compare the actual material's resistance data with the laboratory exposure list. Where hazardous emissions occur, select and commission appropriate extraction separately; a bench enclosure or small fan is not proof of containment.
For comparison, issue a bench layout, equipment schedule, surface-exposure list and service requirements. shengtongJH can coordinate the furniture and interface scope against the laboratory design. Share the laboratory work brief to develop the configuration.
