Hollow magnesium oxide panels should be selected with their internal geometry in mind. A hollow panel is not a solid board that can be cut or fastened anywhere with the same result. The core arrangement, perimeter construction and metal facings need to remain coordinated at every opening.
The drawing that prevents improvised site work
Prepare an elevation showing sockets, pipes, glazing and equipment apertures. Identify which penetrations can be formed during manufacture and which must be made on site. A factory-prepared opening can include planned edge support and closure; a late opening may remove material that was providing local restraint.

Four details to settle
- Edge construction: identify the frame or closure at the panel perimeter and at cutouts.
- Support positions: show where the panel bears on the building or ceiling system.
- Attachments: separate light surface accessories from loads needing reinforcement or independent framing.
- Sealing: define how joints and service penetrations remain closed after components are installed.
These details are connected. A fixing placed in an unsupported hollow zone may not perform like one engaging a designed edge member. Likewise, sealing around a loose fitting will not make the attachment mechanically sound.
Handling damage can remain hidden
Inspect edges and corners on receipt, and record damage before closing joints. Long panels need a handling method that avoids excessive bending. If a panel is damaged, assess its location and construction rather than covering the defect with a trim and assuming the original performance remains.
The cleaning specification belongs in the order as well. Identify the exposed coating, sealant and permitted cleaning method; the word “cleanroom” does not demonstrate resistance to every disinfectant or repeated soaking. Keep unsealed core edges out of the cleaning surface.
