A high-temperature HEPA filter must suit the complete thermal cycle. Peak temperature, time at temperature, heating and cooling behaviour, airflow and installation all affect the selection. A nominal maximum temperature alone is an incomplete purchase specification.
Describe the operating profile
State the normal temperature, maximum condition, duration and frequency of cycles. Include airflow during heating, steady operation and cooling. Distinguish a continuously hot process from equipment that repeatedly starts cold and returns to ambient conditions.
Frame, media, separators, sealant and gasket can respond differently to temperature changes. The selected construction must accommodate those differences. Camfil's Termikfil product uses a specific construction for its high-temperature duty; that does not make its limits transferable to a visually similar filter.
Coordinate the mounting surface
Identify the sealing method, clamping arrangement and expansion provisions required by the selected supplier. The filter and its housing should be assessed together. An ordinary room-temperature gasket or adhesive should not be substituted into a hot installation because its dimensions match.
Include access for safe replacement after the equipment has been isolated and cooled according to the facility procedure. A service route designed around a bare element may be inadequate for protective packaging, handling tools or contaminated-filter controls.
Agree evidence before commissioning
Specify the filter classification, factory records and any required conditioning or start-up instructions. Define the relevant installed acceptance method with the responsible process and validation personnel. A filter's laboratory result does not automatically qualify a complete thermal process.
If filters fail repeatedly after cycling, preserve operating records and examine the housing, seal and thermal sequence as well as the element. Increasing the quoted temperature rating without understanding the failure mechanism can leave the installation problem unresolved.
