Hands-free operation reduces the need to touch a control during washing. It does not make the basin self-cleaning or remove the need for safe water, soap, drying facilities and an appropriate handwashing routine.
Choose how users will operate it
- Sensor control
- Useful where users need automatic operation, but detection, power supply and access to electronic components must be considered.
- Knee control
- Offers mechanical operation from a normal standing position when the panel is within comfortable reach.
- Foot control
- Keeps hands clear of the fitting, while requiring a suitable standing position and an accessible, cleanable pedal area.
The right arrangement depends on users, footwear, accessibility and the facility's maintenance resources. A control that is convenient for one operator may be awkward for someone seated or using mobility support.
Prevent the water jet from becoming a splash source
Coordinate outlet reach, basin shape and flow. Provide enough space to wash without touching the bowl or tap. Keep dispensers and drying materials within convenient reach while protecting nearby clean work or storage from splashes.
CDC guidance on water in healthcare facilities identifies sinks and splashing as considerations in water-related risk management. Healthcare locations need their own infection-control review; an industrial handwash fitting should not be assumed to satisfy every clinical requirement.
Maintain a dedicated purpose
Locate a separate utility sink when tools, buckets or process items must be washed. Using the hand basin for waste disposal or equipment cleaning creates a different duty and can compromise its availability.
Include access to valves, mixers, traps and power components. Specify the expected water conditions and cleaning agents so seals, sensors and surfaces can be selected accordingly.
