A cold room is an enclosure with a large temperature difference across it. The panel field may be well insulated while corners, doors and penetrations still admit warm, moisture-laden air. Those junctions should be specified before panel thickness is treated as the final design decision.
Trace the enclosure continuously
Follow the wall into the ceiling, floor, door frame and every service opening. At each transition, identify how insulation, air sealing and vapour control continue. An unsealed service route can become a path for moisture that later appears as condensation or ice, depending on the operating conditions.
The seal arrangement must suit the selected system and the conditions on each side. Avoid copying a detail from a room operating at a different temperature or humidity without review. Coordinate floor construction and any freezer-specific provisions with the building designer; wall panels alone do not define the floor system.
Door use changes the operating problem
Record delivery frequency, opening duration and the size of loads passing through the room. A door selected only for pallet width may leave the refrigeration system dealing with frequent uncontrolled air exchange. The entrance layout, operating procedure and any suitable traffic-control measures should be considered with the enclosure.
Panels also need to survive the traffic around them. Place impact protection where forklifts or trolleys operate and support it appropriately. A repaired dent is not automatically a restored air or vapour seal; inspect the affected joint or facing.
Compare a complete cold-room package
Kingspan's cold-storage panel range treats cold-store products and their surface options as a specific application family. For your purchase, establish the actual room conditions, panel construction and compatible accessories rather than transferring another supplier's declared performance.
Include corners, junction seals, doors, penetrations and support in the supply schedule. Define which party completes concealed seals and when these can be inspected. Keep the approved details so future pipework or doorway changes do not interrupt the original enclosure strategy.
