A cargo air shower must accommodate the loaded transport unit and expose the relevant surfaces to its air treatment. Pallet dimensions alone do not describe protruding packaging, the vehicle, turning clearance or the operator's movement.
Measure the largest normal load
Record width, height and length with wrapping, handles and projecting parts included. Add the trolley or forklift arrangement and the approach path. A chamber that fits a stationary pallet may still be impractical when a vehicle must enter, stop and leave without striking the doors.
Decide whether the operator travels through with the load or uses another route. Keep personnel safety and the approved door-release behaviour explicit; an interlock intended to manage transfer should not create an unreviewed trapping hazard.
Air can only act on accessible surfaces
Directed air can help dislodge loose surface particles, but it does not clean inside sealed cartons or under inaccessible wrapping. Identify any unpacking or wiping steps that belong before transfer. Avoid presenting the chamber as a steriliser or a guarantee that all incoming materials become suitable for a controlled process.
The ISO 14644-4 design scope supports establishing the cleanroom requirement before choosing equipment. For cargo entry, that means defining the contamination-control task and movement sequence rather than simply choosing the longest chamber.
Choose the doorway for the duty
Hinged, sliding and roll-up arrangements have different space, control and service needs. Check the clear opening after frames and seals are installed, and coordinate sensors with the actual load geometry. Include the floor interface and any threshold in the vehicle-access review.
Provide filter and fan access that remains available after installation. Debris collection and cleaning routes should be practical, especially where damaged packaging or pallet dust is expected. Record the selected maintenance provisions with the chamber layout.
