AHU Frame Profiles: The Corners and Access Doors Decide How the Casing Works

An air-handling-unit frame profile is part of a casing system, not a stand-alone airtight or thermal-break guarantee. Corners, panel joints, access doors and fasteners can influence the finished enclosure as much as the straight extrusion.

Define the casing duty

Identify the operating pressure on each section, the temperature and humidity conditions, and whether the unit is indoors or exposed outdoors. A return-air mixing section and a cold downstream coil section may present different condensation and leakage concerns.

The completed casing needs appropriate performance evidence for its intended duty. A thermally separated profile does not prevent every thermal bridge if metal connectors or fixings bypass the separation. Likewise, a good straight-panel gasket cannot compensate for unsealed corners.

Assemble one representative corner

Before a production order, review a complete corner with panels, connectors, seals and fixings. Check how panels are located and compressed, how the corner is closed and how internal surfaces can be cleaned. This exercise often reveals interference that individual section drawings miss.

Hydro's extrusion design guidance describes functional features such as screw ports, channels and snap-fit details. For an AHU frame, those features should be designed around the actual assembly process and replacement requirements.

Access doors carry repeated duty

Hinges, latches and gaskets must maintain alignment as technicians open the casing for filters, fans and coils. Provide reinforcement where required and enough clearance for components to pass through the opening. A panel that can be removed only after dismantling adjacent pipework creates a maintenance problem.

Specify seal compression and hardware adjustment through the chosen system's instructions. Keep the replacement gasket, latch and corner connector identities with the equipment record. Uncontrolled substitutions can alter leakage or thermal behaviour even when the cabinet looks unchanged.

For AHU aluminium frame profiles, shengtongJH can coordinate sections and associated components to the casing design. Send the panel build-up, section duty and access layout to define a compatible supply.
