ESD vinyl flooring contributes to a controlled path for charge to dissipate. The useful result depends on the installed floor, its grounding arrangement, the footwear or equipment contacting it and the maintenance condition. A material label alone does not establish the performance of that complete path.
Specify the installed system and the people using it
Identify the process sensitivity and the site's ESD control requirements before selecting the floor. Distinguish the evidence for the flooring material from acceptance of the installed surface and evaluation of the footwear-flooring combination.
The EOS/ESD Association's explanation of footwear and flooring shows why separately suitable components may perform differently when combined. Contact resistance and walking behaviour matter; a resistance result for the floor cannot substitute for every required personnel-system assessment.
Keep the grounding interface in the installation scope
Forbo's conductive-tile installation guidance coordinates the substrate, specified adhesive and copper connections. The selected flooring system determines those details; a layout or accessory from a different system should not be assumed compatible.
Assign responsibility for the connection to the approved grounding point and keep its location documented. Resolve the boundary between the flooring installer and electrical contractor before installation, when the connection details remain accessible.
Plan verification and maintenance together
- Define the test methods and acceptance criteria required by the site's ESD programme.
- Record test locations, conditions and the installed material and accessory references.
- Use cleaning agents and surface treatments compatible with the selected system.
- Review repairs, added mats and replacement footwear before assuming the original result still applies.
Dirt and unsuitable surface treatments can change contact behaviour. Keep maintenance instructions with the floor records, including the response when results drift. Equipment wheels and personnel footwear are different contact arrangements and may need different checks.
