A raised floor pedestal transfers load from the access-floor assembly to the structural slab. Its height adjustment is useful only when the head, base, panel interface and any stringers belong to a coordinated floor system. A similar-looking support is not automatically a suitable replacement.
Establish what the height dimension includes
Finished-floor height includes the relevant support assembly, panel and covering. A pedestal adjustment range is a component dimension, not necessarily the finished surface elevation. Check the floor build-up and level reference before choosing the support height band.
Lindner's raised-floor installation guidance treats the slab condition, layout, leveling and floor components together. Follow the selected system's method for engagement, fixing and locking; an adjustment thread should not be extended beyond its approved working range to overcome an incorrect support selection.
Look beyond the regular grid
Perimeters, columns, equipment openings and service obstructions can need support arrangements that differ from a regular bay. Locate these conditions on the layout before placing an order. Moving a pedestal to clear a pipe changes the support relationship and requires an appropriate engineered detail.
Tate's access-floor guidance explains that cut panels need additional support and cannot simply retain the published full-panel load rating. A pedestal's isolated capacity likewise does not establish the complete floor's point-load or rolling-load performance.
Separate mechanical support from electrical bonding
A metal post does not by itself prove a continuous or suitable grounding path. Where bonding is required, identify the approved clamps, conductors and connection points through the electrical design. Keep connections accessible and protected from damage during underfloor work.
ESD floor-surface performance is a separate question from bonding the supporting structure. Record the required mechanical and electrical checks independently. For replacement work, preserve the original component references, interfaces and finished level instead of selecting only by visible post diameter.
