A cleanroom telephone connects users to the site's telephone service through a surface and interface suited to the room. Before choosing a keypad or mounting format, establish whether the available connection is an analog telephone line or a compatible VoIP service.
Resolve the telephone interface first
An analog station and a SIP telephone have different installation requirements. The available line or network service determines the suitable endpoint and the information needed for commissioning. An adapter adds another device whose power, configuration and failure behaviour must be considered.
GAI-Tronics documents separate analog cleanroom telephones and SIP cleanroom telephones. Their shared use of a cleanable hands-free front does not make their communication or power interfaces interchangeable.
Match the controls to the calls people make
A full dialling keypad suits changing destinations; direct-dial keys can simplify frequent calls. Keep the programmed destination and its owner in the handover record. A labelled button can otherwise continue calling an obsolete extension after an office or staffing change.
Review incoming-call indication, answering and call termination with gloved users. Automatic answering may suit a particular workflow, but it also changes when room audio becomes audible to the caller. Decide that behaviour explicitly rather than accepting a default unnoticed.
Include mounting and cleaning in the order
A flush front, rear box and surface enclosure have different space requirements. Check the actual assembly drawing and maintenance access before preparing the wall opening. The visible face dimension is not automatically the cutout dimension.
Confirm compatible cleaning agents and application methods for the membrane, lens, seals and surrounding wall joint. A smooth face helps cleaning access but does not establish resistance to every disinfectant or cleaning process.
Commission outgoing and incoming calls, sound at the intended user position and recovery after a power or service interruption. Do not assume that a normal telephone installation qualifies as a required emergency communication system. That role needs its own approved design and supporting evidence.
