An emergency lighting inverter uses stored battery energy to supply an AC lighting circuit when the required normal supply is unavailable. Selecting the cabinet by its watt rating alone misses the relationship between the lighting load, operating duration, control interfaces and distribution arrangement.
Build a load schedule that describes emergency operation
Identify which luminaires must operate and their actual emergency operating condition. Include driver compatibility, starting behaviour and any equipment that must remain powered for the lighting to function. A sum of lamp labels may differ from the electrical load presented to the inverter.
Check input and output voltage, frequency, continuous output capacity and the manufacturer's battery-duration data for the chosen configuration. OnLine Power's lighting inverter documentation lists power conversion, battery duty, diagnostics and protective devices as separate features. Those distinctions are useful procurement checks; its ratings and approvals do not apply automatically to another assembly.
Source failure and local circuit failure are different events
A central source can remain healthy while a normal lighting circuit loses power. The approved design must establish which condition initiates emergency lighting and how the required lights respond. Presence of a battery does not, by itself, establish the correct response at every occupied area.
Coordinate dimming, occupancy control and other switching with the required emergency state. The complete arrangement includes detection and control interfaces as well as available power. Do not assume that a general office UPS and an emergency lighting inverter are interchangeable merely because both provide AC output.
Make the installed system maintainable
- Provide access for battery service, isolation and inspection without obstructing required routes.
- Define the circuits affected by a maintenance operation and the approved temporary arrangements.
- Keep the load schedule, battery configuration, test records and alarm responsibilities together.
Equipment selection and the installation design must meet the applicable project requirements. A geographic keyword, an advertised runtime or a standard number on a quotation is not evidence of approval for the selected installation.
