Amber cleanroom lighting is selected to reduce exposure to wavelengths that can affect a photosensitive process. The colour seen by an operator is only an initial description. The useful specification is the light reaching the material, together with the material's sensitivity and permitted exposure.
Compare spectra, not colour names
Native amber LEDs, filtered white sources and phosphor-converted yellow LEDs can produce different spectral distributions. A yellow-looking fixture may still emit light in a sensitive band. Banner Engineering's comparison of amber and yellow illumination demonstrates why apparently similar colours cannot be treated as interchangeable.
Obtain the selected source's spectral information and compare it with the process owner's exposure limits. Do not transfer a wavelength cutoff or a safe-use claim from another fixture. Filters, lenses and the selected operating mode are part of the assembly being evaluated.
Follow the material through the room
The material can receive light at loading, inspection, transfer and temporary storage positions. Review those locations as well as the main workstation. A compatible ceiling fixture does not compensate for an unsuitable task lamp, open doorway or maintenance light beside the exposed process.
Balance visibility with exposure control. Shadows can make handling difficult, while simply increasing output can increase the process exposure. Use the actual work positions and exposure time when evaluating an arrangement; visual brightness alone cannot establish compatibility.
Control changes between amber and white operation
Where a dual-mode fixture is proposed, document when white operation is permitted, who can select it and what indicates the active mode. Include the behaviour after power restoration. A convenient cleaning mode should not accidentally become the next production start-up condition.
Keep the approved emitter, filter, driver and control references in the maintenance record. A replacement part with the same dimensions and apparent colour may have a different spectrum. Review substitutions through the same process compatibility procedure used for the original selection.
For amber cleanroom lights, send shengtongjh the exposure limits and lighting layout to coordinate fixture format, operating modes and the required supporting documents.
