A PSA nitrogen generator separates nitrogen-rich gas from compressed air using alternating adsorption beds. The useful output is defined by purity, flow and delivery pressure together. A generator selected at one purity cannot be assumed to deliver the same flow after the oxygen limit is tightened.
State the impurity limit that the process needs
Express the required residual oxygen or other relevant impurity limits clearly, with a measurement basis and sampling point. “High purity” is insufficient. Laser cutting, packaging and laboratory duties can impose different requirements for oxygen, moisture and supply pressure.
Atlas Copco's PSA explanation describes alternating separation and regeneration through carbon molecular sieve beds, and the relationship between purity and production. The practical selection must use the offered generator's performance at the specified duty rather than a maximum-purity statement from another configuration.
Count the air needed to make the gas
The compressed air source must support the nitrogen duty and the generator's operating consumption. State inlet pressure, temperature and air-quality requirements, then include the dryer, filters and receiver in the system review. A generator can be constrained by poor feed conditions even when the compressor's nameplate looks large enough.
For short high demands, evaluate storage and pressure regulation separately from continuous generation. A nitrogen receiver smooths demand but cannot cover an indefinite production shortfall. Higher-pressure applications may also need a booster, which introduces its own power, treatment and maintenance requirements.
Define acceptable behaviour during changeover and faults
Specify purity monitoring, start-up readiness and handling of gas outside the agreed limits. Consider what the process should do after a power interruption or a low feed-pressure event. If production cannot tolerate a supply interruption, evaluate an appropriate backup arrangement and its changeover procedure.
Plan ventilation and gas discharge with the site safety team: nitrogen can displace oxygen, and regeneration exhaust needs a suitable route. Installation acceptance should cover the delivered gas under representative demand and the associated controls.
Review the nitrogen generation range. Send shengtongjh the required purity, pressure and demand profile, including the existing compressed air supply, so the complete generation arrangement can be assessed.
