SU-003 has a cylindrical fabric tip and a slender blue shaft. The head provides a defined contact surface for compatible fiber optic connection areas, subject to the connector's access and cleaning requirements.
Check the head and the supporting neck
The fabric tip, black neck and shaft occupy different portions of the access path. A port may admit the tip but stop the neck before the cleaning surface reaches its target. Compare the complete tool geometry with the actual assembly rather than treating the head diameter as the only fit dimension.
A controlled contact cycle
Use a fresh swab and follow the connector manufacturer's cleaning motion. Where rotation is specified, keep it light and controlled; repeated forceful scrubbing can damage the tip or disturb the connection. Withdraw without touching nearby dirty surfaces and discard the used head.
Inspect the end face after cleaning and before mating. If the result does not meet the applicable inspection criteria, identify whether the issue is remaining residue, poor access or physical damage. Each requires a different response.
Can this replace any optical cleaning stick of similar size?
No. Head shape, fabric construction, insertion depth and the device's approved procedure must also match. Use a representative connection and the required inspection method to qualify a substitution.
