BB-013 has a pointed cleaning tip at both ends of a paper stem. The tapered contact shape helps approach corners and narrow exposed features without the footprint of a rounded paddle.
Access a corner without probing it
The tapered tip helps place the cleaning surface near a corner. It should not be used to open a blocked hole or scrape a hard deposit. Force can bend the stem or damage the tip, particularly when the wider part of the head becomes trapped behind the entry point.
Use a visible withdrawal path
Before inserting the tip, check how it will leave the feature. Burrs and undercuts can catch an absorbent head. Work from the accessible side and use a short motion that keeps the point visible wherever possible.
For fluid-assisted cleaning, lightly wet the working end with a compatible cleaner. Avoid wetting the central paper stem unnecessarily, and do not allow the used tip to touch the opposite end while repositioning the tool.
When is a rounded tip preferable?
A rounded tip can provide a broader contact patch on an open surface. Choose the pointed profile for access and positioning, not because a smaller contact area is always better. Compare residue removal and surface condition under the intended force before standardising the swab.
