The dimensions identify the nominal opening, not the visible face or a filter size. Select the return duty from the complete grille and plenum arrangement.
Border width, blade arrangement, finish and fixing positions can be customized to the shallow opening and surrounding construction.
A 32 x 8 return air grille suits a wide, shallow opening where a taller return face would conflict with the surrounding construction. The long format needs a stable mounting surface and a clear path into the return plenum.
Keep the full width connected to the plenum
A wide opening can be useful above a doorway, along a service bulkhead or at a low-level enclosure. It does not help if the rear plenum connects only through a restricted corner. Consider how air enters behind the whole face, including the transition to the return duct. A shallow decorative cover over an undersized rear passage will not provide the same result as a properly connected return.
Show the depth available behind the opening on the enquiry drawing. This helps separate the grille purchase from any sheet-metal transition needed to complete the airway.
A straight frame needs a straight support
Long, narrow frames can reveal uneven wall finishes. Tightening the end screws harder may bend the border while leaving a gap in the middle. Provide a stable perimeter support and the intended fixing positions rather than asking the grille to straighten the opening.
Plan how the face comes off
A removable core makes cleaning easier, but it needs clearance to withdraw or swing. Door trims, cable covers and nearby furniture can obstruct that motion. Select the removal method before the fixing detail is finalized, particularly when the return is located in a narrow service strip.
Keep a shallow return easy to maintain
Long louvers collect dust along their edges. A finish compatible with routine cleaning and a reachable mounting height reduce maintenance effort. Where filtration is required, locate the filter where it can be changed without dismantling the surrounding building finish. shengtongJH can coordinate the grille, mounting frame and optional filter arrangement against one opening drawing, keeping the visible face separate from the airflow and service requirements behind it.
