A square face does not establish a fixed airflow or noise rating. Use performance data for the exact core and frame selected.
Core, frame overlap, finish and rear connection can be customized to the square opening and return-air route.
A 16x16 return air grille is a square nominal opening selection. It can suit a compact commercial return branch where the face, rear neck and connecting plenum are coordinated rather than selected as unrelated parts.
Make the square opening useful behind the face
A matching grille and a much smaller rear connection can create a bottleneck immediately behind the panel. Review the plenum and transition as part of the selection. A gradual, accessible connection is easier to inspect than a concealed throat assembled from mismatched fittings.
If the grille replaces an existing item, check whether the rear neck was built around the old frame. An identical nominal size does not guarantee the same neck depth or fixing pattern.
Choose a core for the actual task
Angled louvers help manage the line of sight into the return space. A more open grid can offer a different balance of airflow resistance and visibility. Compare the selected core at the required flow instead of assigning the same performance to every square panel.
Keep the return clear after installation
A compact return in a service room can be easily obscured by shelves, notices or temporary storage. Locate it where the air approach will remain clear and where staff can reach the face for cleaning. The required operational clearance should be considered alongside other equipment, not left to a warning added after fit-out.
Where the panel is installed overhead, the mounting and core retention need to suit that orientation. A wall fixing detail should not be assumed suitable simply because the opening is square.
Provide a repeatable replacement record
Keep the opening, face dimensions, material and core style in the maintenance record. This avoids future orders being based only on a photograph or the length of the visible frame. shengtongJH can source the grille and installation frame to that information while keeping any filter requirement separate and clearly identified.
