Display physical radiographic films on a uniformly illuminated surface, with a viewing field sized for the films used by the facility.
Match the viewing field to the films
A film viewer illuminates a physical film from behind. The useful area is the illuminated field rather than the outside frame. A single field supports one film position; wider versions allow related films to be placed alongside each other without repeatedly removing and replacing them.
Check the actual film format and the way it is held. Clips should retain the film without obscuring the area that needs to be viewed. Where different film sizes are used, consider masking unused bright areas to reduce distracting light around the film.
Control the surrounding light
Strong reflections from windows or room luminaires can make a display harder to use. Position the viewer so that the user can stand or sit comfortably without seeing a bright reflection across the film. Dimming helps adapt the background illumination, but it cannot compensate for a damaged diffuser or a poorly positioned viewer.
Define the viewing task
A film illuminator is not a digital medical monitor and does not display image files. Diagnostic applications require suitable luminance, uniformity and quality-assurance arrangements for that task. Do not infer diagnostic suitability solely from the presence of LED backlighting.
Keep the light field consistent over time
Inspect the viewing face for stains, scratches, flicker or areas of uneven brightness. These conditions can interfere with the appearance of a film. Clean the diffuser using a method compatible with its material, and avoid liquid entering the frame or control openings.
For recessed installation, leave access to the driver and electrical connections without damaging the room wall. The panel should remain removable for service. Number of viewing fields, brightness controls and the wall interface can be customized around the facility's film-display workflow.
