Dimensions describe building openings, not clear passage. The selected door drawing defines frame size and usable clearance.
Door size, colour, leaf split, access hardware and monitoring can be customized for your commercial premises and operating needs.
A commercial exit door has to work during ordinary business as well as an evacuation. Staff access, delivery movements, closing noise and security all affect the choice of leaf arrangement and hardware.
Keep security and everyday circulation working together
A rear retail door can be an employee entrance, a delivery route and an emergency exit at different times of day. Choosing only a strong lock overlooks how staff actually use it. A suitable outside-access device restricts entry without making the internal escape action depend on someone locating a key.
Where electronic access is included, the opening needs a defined operating sequence for normal access, alarms and loss of power. The access-control contractor and doorset supplier must agree that sequence. Adding a separate magnetic lock after the door arrives can introduce a second release requirement that the original hardware did not address.
Frequent staff passage
A single active leaf provides a clear routine for everyday movement. The closer, latch and hinges should be selected as a coordinated hardware set for the expected traffic. Reliable closing avoids the recurring problem of staff wedging a troublesome door open.
Where a wider pair is needed occasionally, define whether the second leaf is only for controlled deliveries or also forms part of the escape opening. Those are different hardware decisions.
Public-facing escape
Customers may have no knowledge of the building or its locks. Broad push-bar operation is easier to identify than a sequence involving small controls. Hardware selection must follow the occupancy and rules adopted for the project.
The door should lead to a usable onward route. Merchandising, queues and delivery staging need to stay outside the required approach and swing space.
Choose the bottom detail for the location
A sheltered internal passage and a rain-exposed service exit do not need the same threshold arrangement. Weather seals can help at an external opening, but a raised sill can interfere with wheeled movement and accessibility. Resolve drainage, floor levels and the required clearances together; fitting a deeper seal later is not always a satisfactory repair.
Powder-coated steel offers a finish that can be coordinated with a commercial interior. In exposed or frequently washed areas, specify the corrosion-protection system and cleaning conditions at procurement rather than choosing a colour alone.
Reduce avoidable service calls
A door that scrapes or fails to latch may have an alignment, floor-clearance or frame-fixing problem. Increasing closer force can hide the symptom while making the door harder to use. Have the installer identify the cause and retain the hardware references for future replacement.
For refurbishment, record the existing frame condition as well as the wall opening. Ordering a replacement leaf against an approximate width can leave hinge positions, lock preparation and edge details incompatible. A complete replacement doorset can be the more coherent option where the existing frame is damaged.
