SU-001 is a fiber optic cleaning swab with a narrow fabric contact tip and red handle. Its form is intended for controlled access to optical connection areas where a larger surface wipe cannot reach.
Match the cleaning tip to the port
Optical connector access depends on the opening, ferrule position, insertion depth and contact geometry. A nominal tip diameter alone does not establish compatibility with a connector family. Confirm the actual port and cleaning-tool requirements before inserting the swab.
The red handle helps identify this model at the station, but colour is not a universal connector-size code. Keep the model reference with the work instruction and avoid mixing visually similar tools in an unlabelled container.
Inspect, clean, inspect again
- Inspect the connection using the approved optical inspection equipment before deciding that cleaning is needed.
- Use a fresh correctly fitting swab with light controlled motion. Follow the connector maker's method and approved cleaning fluid where required.
- Inspect again before mating. A cleaning pass is not proof that the end face is clean.
Do not look into an optical port or use a swab to force open an obstruction. Keep unused tips protected and discard a tip after the specified cleaning operation to avoid carrying contamination to another connection.
