Panel pre-filters collect larger airborne particles before they reach downstream equipment and finer filters. Choose the frame and media arrangement around the available space, dust loading and intended maintenance method.
Protect the downstream system with a practical service choice
Coarse dust, lint and fibres can load finer filters or collect on downstream equipment. A panel pre-filter intercepts part of that burden in an accessible first stage. It is a useful component of the ventilation system, but it does not replace final filtration where the process requires it.
The best construction depends on more than initial purchase cost. Consider how the panel will be accessed, whether media changes are practical on site and how used material will be handled. A reusable frame and a washable filter are different things.
Compare four constructions
Flat aluminium-frame panel
A reusable frame supports a simple media pad. It can be useful where replacing the media is practical, provided the replacement is the correct material and remains properly retained around its edges.
Cardboard pleated panel
The media and supporting frame are replaced as one assembly. This simplifies changeout, but the service environment must suit the frame. Do not treat a cardboard assembly as a washable metal filter.
Metal-supported panel
The metal frame and supporting mesh hold the selected media in place. Confirm the serviceable parts before ordering replacements so a media change does not distort the intended pleat arrangement.
Washable pleated panel
A construction intended for cleaning can support reuse where the contamination and cleaning process are suitable. Washing is not an unlimited-life guarantee; inspect the media and frame and follow the selected product's cleaning limits.
Make the panel seal to the rack
A loose-fitting panel permits air to bypass the media. Match the face dimensions, depth and retaining arrangement to the housing, and identify the airflow direction. Panels installed next to one another also need the intended edge support so gaps do not develop between them.
Pleating increases the media area within a given face, but it does not remove the need to select the airflow correctly. Consider the filter bank and available pressure together rather than choosing only a panel that fits the opening.
Use grade labels carefully
The G4 designation follows an older classification convention. Where a project specifies ISO 16890, request the corresponding tested classification for the selected filter; the old label should not be converted into an assumed particle-removal percentage.
Plan replacement before the panel becomes a restriction
Inspect loading, condition and the system's pressure behavior. A heavily loaded panel can restrict the air supply, while torn media or an insecure frame can reduce protection without an obvious pressure increase. For washable selections, return the filter to service only after the required cleaning and drying procedure.
Share the housing size, airflow, expected dust and preferred service method. Panel dimensions, frame and media construction can be customized to the application. Compare pre-filter options.
